Dressing for games 1 & 2 of the 1961 Stanley Cup Finals despite never playing a single shift in the NHL, Chico Maki would play for the Chicago Black Hawks for over a dozen seasons, hanging up his skates after the 1975-76 campaign. Becoming known throughout his career as a skilled two-way forward, perennially in the league leaders in shorthanded goals, Maki would play in a trio of NHL All-Stars Games, taking the ice at the mid-season classic in 1961, 1971 and 1972. Hailing from a season in which he put up 32 points in 77 games played, offered here is this Black Hawks jersey worn by Maki during the 1972-73 campaign.
Made by Wilson and featuring a brand tag that displays a size "46" designation sewn to the inner collar, the front of the bright red durene construction garment is decorated with Chicago's famed Indian head team crest that features beautifully chain-stitched details throughout its entirety. Accented over both shoulders with matching tomahawk alternate logo crests, once again featuring chain-stitched details throughout, the sleeves and verso have had Maki's number "16" sewn on in single layer white twill numerals. Exhibiting excellent game-wear throughout, stick marks are observed over the front and both sleeves while red coloured board paint transfer marks are observed over the "1" on the left sleeve, at the bottom of the "6" on the reverse and front hem line near the left hip. Sporting additional wear through numerous team repairs that total nine (9) by our count (6 over the lower front and 3 on the left sleeve) and a pair of small unrepaired holes near the right cuff, the interior of the jersey, which is void of a fight strap, has heavy pilling through the body and at both elbows. A signed 8" x 10" photo of Chico Maki with COA is also included.
