Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
On January 1st 2016, in front of a crowd of 67,246 enthusiastic fans at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA, and an audience of millions of viewer’s worldwide, two long-time “Original Six” arch-rivals faced each other in the eighth annual Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, with the Montreal Canadiens defeating the Boston Bruins 5-1. Hailing from that fabled outdoor contest, offered here we have this Montreal Canadiens jersey worn by Brian Flynn during the game's first period of play. Made by Reebok and featuring just a lone size "54" label affixed to the inner collar, logo patches for both the NHL and Reebok have been applied over the front and reverse necklines respectively. Based on a trio of jerseys worn by the Canadiens between 1909 and 1925, the front of the garment is decorated with Montreal's famed "CH" crest in a vintage style felt construction while the all-important 2016 NHL Winter Classic event patch is in place atop the right shoulder. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Flynn's number "32" in dual layer red-over-white felt numerals that have been sewn down with a zig-zag pattern, "Flynn" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Also accented over the sleeves with globe crests that feature embroidered details and retaining its fight strap on the interior, the jersey, worn for just a single period of play, shows just light game-wear via a stick mark near the right cuff and spot/sweat staining throughout. Of note, there is also some staining around the sleeve and verso numbers, possibly from the adhesive used to hold them down before sewing. Having had a MeiGray tag numbered "M06888" sewn inside the reverse hem, according to the company's Population Report, the jersey is a "White - Winter Classic 1/1/16 at Gillette Stadium - NHL-MGG Set Worn Period 1" offering. A matching NHL/MeiGray LOA will accompany the piece.
