Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
First coming to the attention of the Boston Bruins while playing in a youth hockey tournament in Ontario just as he was turning 13, Bobby Orr would then see 4 seasons in Oshawa with the Generals beginning in 1962 as a 14-year old, competing against players 3 to 4 years his senior, with 280 points posted in just 193 OHA games. Any and all items associated with Bobby’s time in Oshawa are extremely scarce, with this leather Generals jacket from 1964-65 worn by the youthful superstar before his ascension to greatness. A “Craft” label is affixed to the collar, with the blue leather lacket measuring-out to a modern size 50. Featuring original chenille patches including a team crest over the left breast, OHA patch over the left sleeve and Orr’s “2” over the right, with affixed leather striping bands over the middle left sleeve. Originally gifted by Bobby's father Doug to a family friend, the jacket eventually made its way to a dealer at the Toronto Expo show.
The jacket shows heavy wear with considerable rubbing to the leather in spots, with no large tears or rips. The lining also shows signs of its age with some light fading to the exposed areas around the collar, with just the single top button switched at some point and unoriginal. There is also light wear to the patches, with some of the leather’s blue colouring bleeding onto a section of the white leather striping band.
