Selected in the first round of both the NHL and WHA drafts in 1973, Andre Savard is a veteran of almost 800 NHL regular-season contests, with the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres and Quebec Nordiques all represented. Bobby Schmautz netted 26 playoff goals for Boston during his tenure, including the overtime winner in Game Four of the 1978 Stanley Cup final versus Montreal. This photo-matched Bruins jersey saw use in 1975-76 by Savard during his final season with the club (Savard was the only player to wear #11 in 1975-76), and was recycled, with later use attributed to Schmautz during the 1976-77 preseason. A clean Wilson label with “46” sizing is affixed to the collar, with no other tagging present. Styled with the classic spoked-B team crest fully administered in layered tackle twill, “11” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with embroidered Bruins alternate patches over each shoulder. A double-garter style fight strap has also been utilized. A detailed LOA document will accompany.
It should be noted that the circular bicentennial state patches that once sat on each shoulder were removed (their outlines are easily visible on the interior of the jersey) and were replaced with the current embroidered bruin patches, done for recycled use in the 1976-77 preseason. Whether the Bruins wore these jerseys into the beginning of the 1976-77 regular season for a short period of time is not known. There is also a faint outline of a TV nameplate removal. The jersey exhibits heavy game-use, with considerable wear to the material including substantial interior/exterior pilling and numerous team repairs, with approx 20 examples over the front, 5 on the reverse and 5 over the sleeves. There is also heavy sweat staining on the reverse collar. An included numeric studio image of Savard from 1975-76, most likely before the start of the regular season as no Bicentennial patches are present on the shoulders, is clearly matched to the white sewing thread pattern on the first "1" of "11" on the left sleeve, and the placement of the black twill "1" over the gold base, as well as to a few details on the team crest and lower front collar.
