Their 12th season of play in the Major Leagues, the 1980 edition of the Kansas City Royals, under new manager Jim Frey, finished first in the American League West Division with a record of 97–65 and finally broke through in the postseason, sweeping the New York Yankees 3-0 in the 1980 American League Championship Series after falling to the Yankees in the ALCS in 1976, 1977 and 1978. With George Brett posting one of the best seasons in Major League Baseball history. Brett became the first Royals player to win a Most Valuable Player award, and his league-leading .390 batting average was the highest in the majors since Ted Williams hit .406 in 1941. Downed four (4) games to two (2) by the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, offered here we present this Kansas City Royals 1980 American League Champions ring that was presented to outfielder Amos Otis. Measuring out to a size 7 1/2 and weighing in at approximately 36 grams, the tableau of the rings features a script "Royals" wordmark logo in gold on top of a single blue stone while "1980 American League Champions" is found around the bezel. Sporting both the 1980 World Series and Kansas City team logos on the left shank as well as "Otis" and his number "5" engraved into a baseball on the right side with the image of Kauffman Stadium centered between them, the inner band is stamped with "10K Jostens". Displaying light-to-moderate wear from use via scratches that cover the outer band and shanks, a few small dings/cuts are noticeable along edges along with a small spot of finish wear behind the "L" in "League" around the bezel.
