Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
From his final season in Montreal where he appeared in 78 games, we have a “1945-46” style Montreal Canadiens centennial alternate captain’s jersey that was worn by the Togliatti native in the Nov 15th match vs Philadelphia in 2008, and it’s been photo-matched. Size tagging sits affixed to the collar including handwritten “1” (for set 1), with NHL and Reebok crests on the bottom hem and back necklines respectively. Adorned with the familiar style Habs team crest that’s been partially embroidered, the solid white sweater has been accented with tri-colour tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with the important centennial patch over the right shoulder. The fight strap has also been cut. An LOA from the Canadiens organization will accompany.
Game-wear on the Kovalev sweater is light, with just a single random mark on the lower front along with additional examples over each sleeve. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty Image #83738638 from Nov 15th 2008 has been matched to the loose/damaged thread on the team crest, and to the black mark at the right of the collar along with the washed-out black mark on the left shoulder. A hologram from the Canadiens’ numbered 702083 has been placed at the bottom of the back “7”, with the matching hologram affixed to the accompanying LOA.
