Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Impressive collection of signed deeds features four historic Canadian figures, including two Fathers of Confederation. Included are the signatures of Alexander Campbell and Allan McNab, both Joint Premier Province of Canada preceding Confederation, Oliwer Mowat, the third Premier of Ontario, and renowned financier and soldier Henry Pellatt, who built Toronto’s famous Casa Loma, which was the biggest private residence constructed in Canada when it was completed. Campbell’s black fountain pen ink signature appears on an Indenture of Bargain & Sale with the Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada. Pellatt signed as mortgagor above his wife Mary’s signature in black fountain pen ink on the fourth page of a 1912 mortgage document. McNab placed a large black fountain pen ink signature at the bottom of a 15” x 19” deed and ounce again on the other side of the document. The final deed featured bears the signatures of both Campbell and Mowat. Campbell’s black fountain pen ink as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario is on the top right of the first page of the deed which has also been signed by Mowat.
