Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Released in 1999 and set in a fictitious town that lives and breathes hockey, Mystery Alaska starred Russell Crowe, Burt Reynolds and Hank Azaria. The Mystery pond hockey team are featured in a Sports Illustrated article, with a nationally televised exhibition game against the New York Rangers slated. The Rangers win the contest to the dismay of the Mystery supporters, with a pair of Mystery players offered Rangers contracts. We have a pair of jerseys worn in the film, including a Rangers “Weadon” example, along with the Mystery jersey worn by Galin Winetka (played by Adam Beach). The Rangers jersey has Starter labeling and sizing along the collar (54-R), with tackle twill team crest and numbers, with Starter and NHL logos over the reverse bottom hem. There is some loose threading in a few spots along the top of the front band and some pilling to the collar, with the jersey in otherwise excellent condition. The Mystery jersey is made to simulate thick wool, with a “52” size tag along the collar and black felt “M” with white trim over the chest. “4” appears over the verso in matching material, with “G. Winetka” placed just above. With no issues other than some pilling over the lower front, the jersey remains in beautiful condition.
