Earning the alternate’s “A” in his second NHL season with Toronto in 1986-87 at just 21, Wendel Clark would wear the mighty maple leaf in three separate stints, and would captain the famous club from 1991-92, to and including 1993-94. This photo-matched alternate captain’s Leafs jersey was worn by the superstar in his fifth NHL season in 1989-90, where he registered 26 points in just 38 regular-season games. Acquired by our consignor the very night the Leafs team store opened on Dec 27, 1990, where he was second in line for the grand opening, according to an accompanying affidavit, a faded Maska label is affixed to the collar, with the vintage sweater measuring-out to roughly a size 54. Styled with a tackle twill team crest with “Toronto Maple Leafs” embroidered, “17” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single twill, with alternate crests over each shoulder. Sporting nice game-use with marks, burns and paint transfer to the sleeves, there are also a few team repairs on or near each elbow section. There is also pilling beneath the fight strap. Clark has signed the white alternate leaf over the left shoulder in black marker, with the aforementioned affidavit to accompany.
Getty Image #968670826 (January 24th 1990) has been matched to the loose blue thread to the right of the team crest, to the loose white thread on the top of the last "O" of "Toronto”, to the excess blue thread on the lower left point of the team crest, and to the orange paint transfer on the left lower edge of the "7" on the right sleeve. Additionally, Getty Images #968670814 (January 24th 1990) has been matched to the small black marks in the upper areas of the "1" and "7" on the left sleeve, to the black mark in the white panel to the right of the "17", with one of the team repairs on the elbow also showing up on this image, while Getty Images #968670818 (January 24th 1990) has been matched to a number of marks on the "17" on the right sleeve, and to the big dark mark on the right elbow.
