Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Scoring 205 points in only 87 contests – unheard of in today’s current game – the 1983-84 NHL season witnessed Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers triumphant in their first Stanley Cup championship, with The Great One securing the Art Ross, Hart Memorial and Lester B. Pearson awards. We have a signed stick used by Wayne during that magical season. His preferred Titan TPM 2020 model, “W. Gretzky” is boldly stamped over the upper shaft, with a date code of “Mar 19 1984” on the lower shaft and “WG-1” handwritten in pencil on the underside near the heel. The original and now aged white tape remains over the knob and handle, with the blade tape removed. Wayne has added his beautiful signature in black marker on the front side of the lower shaft, along with “Best Wishes”.
Dark marks are visible along the heel section, near the tip and on the lower shaft, with a small section chipped away on the topside of the blade. There are also a few additional marks to the upper shaft as well as a small surface chip, with wear to the taped handle.
