Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Bisons finished in third and fourth respectively in a field of eight teams at the conclusion of the 1911 Eastern League season, with the Rochester Bronchos winning the league title for a second season in a row. Rarely found, we offer a group of three Leafs programs from 1911 and three Buffalo programs - with two from 1911 and one from 1910. The Hanlan's Point Leafs programs all feature a cameo photograph of HOFer Joe Kelley, who played and managed the club from 1907 to 1914. His time with Toronto is noteworthy, as Kelley received the highest salary for a minor league player to date when he signed in 1907 for $5,000.00 (just under $168,000.00 in 2025 dollars). The games are against Newark, Pittsburgh and Providence, with each scored in pencil. The Bisons programs all have wonderful cover graphics, with the two from 1911 scored (vs Baltimore and Montreal), while the 1910 program is unscored (vs Toronto). There is expected handling wear to all programs, with rusting to the staples of the Leafs programs and a bit of staining to the covers of the Bisons programs. This is part of a large group of early Maple Leafs material in this auction all hailing from a longtime collector.
