Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
The backbone of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey organization as principal owner for over three decades, Constantine Falkland Cary "Conn" Smythe served Canada in the first World War before purchasing the Leafs and building Maple Leaf Gardens. Smythe would be enshrined for his contributions to the game in 1958, passing at the age of 85 in 1980. We have a pair of Leafs documents signed by the U of T alum. First, there is a Form “C” Agreement (memorandum) from what appears to be 1948, with the player’s name and date hard to decipher due to the faded and bleeding typeface, with Smythe signing in bold blue ink (document is 8 ½” x 14” unfolded). The second document is a player’s assignment form from 1940 for Norman Mann, signed by Smythe in dark ink along with secondary party Providence Reds owner and one-time partial Boston Celtics owner, Lou Pieri (document is 8 ½” x 9”).
Both documents exhibit just light handling and age wear, with no issues for the signatures.
