Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A staple in the CART/IndyCar Racing Series' from 1998 to 2023, Tony Kanaan, simply known by many as "TK" and referred to as one of the greatest racing drivers of all-time, would claim the IndyCar Series Championship in 2004 and an illustrious Indianapolis 500 win in 2013. Also having won the 2015 Rolex 24 at Daytona, Kanaan was voted the IndyCar Series' "Most Popular Driver" in 2013. Currently the Team Principal of Arrow McLaren, offered here is this helmet worn by Kanaan during the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series season which has been photo-matched to the July 15th, 2001 race in Toronto, Ontario. A Arai Helmets made example in Kanaan's familiar design with a colourway matching the livery used by Mo Nunn Racing that season, "Lew Lara" stickers appear over the front and both sides while "Honda" and Kanann's personal website grace the area of the mouth and chin. Also displaying a Pioneer sponsorship logo over the jaw on each side, the helmet was painted by legendary Brazilian motorsports designer/painter Sid Mosca. Retaining its blue chrome visor over the front with a "Hollywood" sponsorship decal at the top of it, the helmet is numbered "01/01" over the lower reverse and retains all its padding on the interior as well as a Snell Foundation certification sticker. Still featuring all its electronic wiring and microphone/radio on the interior, the helmet remains in fantastic condition exhibiting lighter wear including a small paint chip on the front crown and a few spots of wear on the top of the helmet. Signed by Kanaan over the visor on the front with a silver marker ink signature that displays with some wear and fading, the helmet, which according to the back story listed in documentation from Toronto Motorsports, was originally owned by Paul Tracy, a fellow racer, who acquired the helmet in a swap with Kanaan. Accompanied by a Toronto Motorsports LOA, the helmet has been photo-matched with Getty Image #577837 (July 15th, 2001 - 2001 Molson Indy Toronto) to the paint chip above the Lew Lara decal over the forehead.
