Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
The last active player from the 1997 and 1998 Stanley Cup-winning Detroit squads, Tomas Holmstrom spent 15 seasons in Motor City, with a gold medal won with Sweden at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Originally drafted 257th overall by Detroit in 1994 and winning additional Cups with them in 2002 and 2008, Holmstrom would also represent his native Sweden on a few occasions throughout his lengthy career, including at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games where Sweden won the gold medal. Offered here, we present this pair of photo-matched gloves worn by Holmstrom while playing for Team Sweden at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. CCM made gauntlets in Sweden's familiar blue and yellow colourway, "Holmstrom" is found printed over the wrists of each glove while CCM graces the areas of the cuffs and thumbs. Displaying with good game-wear including rubbing over both palms that is heaviest in the left glove, stick marks and other abrasions are found over the outside of each as well. Marked with an "I" over each wrist in black marker ink, Holmstrom has signed over the cuffs of both gloves with black marker ink signatures that display well. With the signature over the left glove also including a "Best Wishes" inscription in matching ink, it is worth noting that a bit of what seems to be sticker residue is seen over the left cuff as well. Regarding the photo-match, Getty Image #1155969 (February 18th, 2002 vs Germany) is matched to the mark above first "C" in "CCM". Additionally, a Sweden logo puck signed by Holmstrom with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue is also included with the lot.
