The first Slovak-born player to win the Stanley Cup, doing so with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1961, Stan Mikita is generally recognized as the best centre of the 1960s and played his entire 1394 game National Hockey League career with the Black Hawks in Chicago between 1958-59 and 1979-80. The Art Ross Trophy winner as the NHL's leading scorer in 1964, 1965, 1967, and 1968, with Hart Memorial Trophy's coming in 1967 and 1968 as well, Mikita would be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983 and was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history during the league's centennial year of 2017. Offered here, and seeing use during the peak of his career in the era of the mid-to-late-1960s, is this stick used by Mikita. A Christian Bros. Custom Pro model with "Mikita" stamped over the shaft, additional stamps from the historic Minnesota based manufacturer are found over both sides of the upper shaft as well with just the smallest amount covered by the the tape that is in place over the handle. Retaining its original tape job of white-over-black on the handle/knob that has been shaved down to Mikita's liking, the original black tape that was wrapped around the fear inducing "banana hook" blade is still firmly in place and accounted for along with a trio of mostly intact accent stripes at the bottom of the shaft. Signed by Mikita over the forehand side of the blade tape with a silver marker ink signature that displays without issue, the stick shows good but overall light game-use throughout its entirety via a small handful of marks and abrasions. With light wear present over both sides of the vintage black blade tape as well, it is important to note that the stick is darker in colour from either natural discoloration or a stain/darkening agent that was applied at some point and there is a small hole drilled into the stick on the underside of the stick near the heel. A seldom seen gem from one of the top players to ever play in the National Hockey League, the stick hails from the collection of former WHA and NHL referee Ron Fournier and is accompanied by a Classic Auctions LOA.
