With American viewers voicing concerns regarding the visibility of the puck, Fox Sports created the FoxTrax puck, with the innovation seeing use from 1996-98 during the network’s 5-year broadcast agreement with the NHL which began in 1994. Four censors each are featured along both the top and bottom of the puck, with an additional 12 evenly spaced along the puck’s edge, with the electronic components generating blue and red streaks when the puck was either passed or shot, along with the blue halos that tracked the little black rubber’s location. We have an example that saw use during the 1996 NHL All-Star Game, the first venue that these controversial pucks were featured in. An InGlasCo model with the 1996 All-Star logo across the face, the NHL Official Game Puck crest graces the reverse, with light wear exhibited to the surface and edge with no obtrusive gouges present.
