Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
The first of it's kind we have ever handled, and made to commemorate one of man's greatest historical achievements, this scarce limited-edition Wilkinson sword was produced for the 1969 Apollo aa moon landing. At a full three feet in length, the sword features a number of patriotic etchings that travel down the blade from the hilt including a flowing American flag, the Apollo 11 Saturn V rocket, a banner with "Apollo 11 Moon Landing 20-7-1969", the Command Module Columbia, the moon, and the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle. The Wilkinson logo that reads "By appointment of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Sword Cutlers" and "Made in England" appears just above the hilt, with the serial number "0338" stamped on the reverse side. The display shield is a finished wooden plaque with beveled edge at 7" x 39 1/2", with a small mounted gold coloured plaque with embossed text that reads "Sword by Wilkinson Sword of London to Honour the Achievement of the USA Moon Landing 1969", with an embossed line drawing of the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle. The sword sports a few minor scratches and blemishes to the blade, along with a few marks, general wear and small nicks to the hilt. This is one of four prominent swords in this auction that all hail from the same collector.
