Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A rare survivor with gorgeous period graphics, ideal for display, we offer an 1899 Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club score card. Featuring a match vs Worcester which has been scored in pencil, the cover shows a young newsboy in vivid colour crossing home plate with period ball and ring bat as background decor, with a photo on the first page of Canadian and Maple Leafs manager Arthur Irwin, who played and managed in the National League and American Association from 1880 to 1899. Irwin, who appears in the Old Judge baseball card set, is recognized as one of the originators of the baseball glove, with a signature pairing of a full and fingerless glove - named "Irwin Gloves" - sold by Draper & Maynard in the late-1880s. The score card also has a full page team photo of the 1899 Maple Leafs. While condition is not ideal, with the covers detached and rusting to the staples, this scarcity is well worth restoring for any dedicated Maple Leafs, Toronto or Canadian baseball collector. This program is from large group of early Maple Leafs material in this auction all hailing from a longtime collector. Pure Canadiana!
