Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
Norris Trophy winner Randy Carlyle’s game-worn Penguins captain’s jersey is from the 1982-83 season, his last full one in Pittsburgh. Carlyle claimed the Norris as the NHL’s top defenseman with Pittsburgh in 1980-81 and he wore this black mesh road affair in 1982-83. The jersey is photo-matched to an included Bruce Bennett printed photo to a pair of partially washed-out marks on the back hem and to Getty Images #1253570650 to a number of mostly washed-out, but visible marks, on the lower yellow stripe on the left elbow. The fight strap was cut off and tagging in the collar is gone. The jersey measures out to roughly a size 52 with Sandow SK screened in vinyl on the rear tail. Numbers, surname letters on the nameplate, and Penguins crest on the front are all rubberized, as is the captain’s C on a square patch sewn on the left breast. All remain intact and whole other than the numbers on the back, which display vertical cracks though very little vinyl loss. There are four team repairs on the right sleeve, which has black marks and board burns. The left sleeve has one repair and a spot of red paint transfer, and there are four more team repairs on the front tail. Comes with a MeiGray LOA and COR plus a pair of additional LOAs.
