Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Owning the Ontario Hockey League's career goal scoring record for a total of thirty-three (33) years before it was broken by John Tavares in 2009, Peter Lee would be drafted 12th overall by the Montreal Canadiens at the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft as well as 21st overall by the Toronto Toros of the World Hockey Association that same year. Choosing the route of the NHL, Lee would go on to play a total of 431 games in the league over the course of six (6) years, all with the Pittsburgh Penguins, before embarking on a long career overseas in Germany. Offered here, we present this Penguins jersey worn by Lee during the 1979-80 season in which he posted 45 points in 74 games played. Made by Stall & Dean with tagging from the brand as well as washing instructions affixed to the inner collar, fly tags for the size and year reading "48" and "9" are found in the same area as well. An all-mesh construction garment decorated over the front with a screened on Penguins team crest, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Lee's number "10" in screened on dual layer numerals while "Lee" is spelt out in single layer navy twill letters across the affixed matching mesh nameplate at the top of the reverse, Featuring a dual clasp garter style fight strap on the interior, the jersey hails from the last set of blue and white coloured jerseys Pittsburgh ever wore before they switched to their familiar black, white and yellow at the end of January 1980. Exhibiting overall good game-wear, stick marks are present over the front, reverse and both sleeves while both sleeves also show additional wear through team repairs, coloured board paint transfers and board burns. Also sporting sweat staining and spot staining throughout, minor pilling is found on the interior as well.
