Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
From failing hands to you we throw, the torch, be yours to hold it high. Those famous words, from a poem written by John McCrae during World War I, were stenciled to the wall of the Montreal Canadiens dressing room at the old Montreal Forum and were joined by the images of great Canadien players, to act as motivational inspiration for the then current day players, or torch-bearers, if you will. This is the quarter-inch thick piece that featured the picture of former Habs goalie extraordinaire Jacques Plante, the man who backstopped the team to a record five consecutive Stanley Cup titles while helping secure his spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame. What goaltender wouldnt be inspired, glancing up at the likes of Plante, Durnan, Hainsworth and Vezina, whose images were joined by those of Morenz, Richard, Beliveau, Harvey and others. The head is bigger than life-size at approximately 10 by 13 and includes light wear around the edges. A one-of-a-kind piece deserving of the most serious Jacques Plante collection, its difficult to take your eyes off it!
