While Kuntar is one of the more obscure goalies to suit up for Montreal over the years, he did appear in six games for the club in 1993-94, putting together a 2-2-0 record with a 3.18 goals-against average. At the time, he was far down the team’s goaltending depth chart. The 1987 draft pick was fresh off a stint at St. Lawrence University and split 1991-92 between the AHL’s Fredericton Canadiens and the United States National Team for pre-Olympic contests. Presented here is a red road CCM sweater which bears the NHL’s 75th anniversary patch from 1991-92 and Kuntar is attributed to having worn it during training camp and pre-season. This item has a unique history as it was originally part of the team’s 1986-87 set as a born-on date tag of “86 04” can be found underneath the Maska tag in the collar. There is evidence of multiple players wearing it as there are signs of a larger nameplate being attached prior to Kuntar’s use of it. There is only one notable sign of wear due to some pilling on the right cuff. No sizing tag is found on this jersey, but there is a CCM logo patch on the bottom back right hem. Obtained directly from the Montreal Canadiens, a Classic Auctions LOA will accompany.
