Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
The Prince of Wales Trophy winners by topping the National Hockey League standings, the 1961-62 edition of the Montreal Canadiens saw the "Flying Frenchmen" finish their 53th season of play with a record of 42–14–14 to finish in 1st place in the league, qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs but being knocked off in the semi-finals by the Chicago Black Hawks. Offered here, we present this stick signed by eighteen (18) members of the 1961-62 Montreal Canadiens. A generic wooden stick made by SSW (Super Strong Wood) that measures just under 54" in length, the "Extra Special Professional" model twig sports brand stamps over one side of the shaft along with both "Right" and "Lie No. 4" stamps over the top side of the shaft while a striping accent sticker appears around the bottom of the shaft also. In overall good condition but showing various marks throughout and heavy wear to the blade, which has been massively worn down and is now very skinny, the blade also shows breaks near the toe that are worth noting for accuracy. For the autographs, all signed in blue ballpoint pen ink that displays well despite its age, those that have signed the stick include deceased Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Henri Richard, Jean Beliveau, Jacques Plante, Boom Boom Geoffrion, Dickie Moore, Tom Johnson and Toe Blake as well as Lou Fontinato, Marcel Bonin, Bobby Rousseau, Claude Provost, Don Marshall, J.C. Tremblay, Gilles Tremblay, Phil Goyette, Ralph Backstrom, Bill Hicke and Al MacNeil. Also signed by a couple of unknown non-Canadiens on the opposite side of the shaft, the stick comes accompanied by a Classic Auctions LOA.
