Enjoying a 19-year National Hockey League career after being drafted 56th overall by the Calgary Flames at the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, Mike Vernon, a Memorial Cup champion in 1983 with the Portland Winterhawks, would backstop the Calgary Flames and Detroit Red Wings to Stanley Cup championships in 1989 and 1997 respectively and take home the Conn Smyth Trophy as playoffs MVP in 1997 as well. Named to five (5) NHL All-Star Games, offered here is this Mike Vernon Calgary Flames 1989-90 game jersey. Made by CCM, a Maska Air-Knit label displaying handwritten size "52" and "G" (for goalie cut) designations is affixed to the inner collar with the tag also sporting an additional notation that cannot be made out due to fading. Accented with the CCM and NHL shield logos embroidered into the reverse hem, denoting the jersey as a late-in-the-season offering, the front of the bright red garment is decorated with a Flames team crest in stacked tri-layer tackle twill style while Vernon's number "30" has been sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual layer white-over-red tackle twill numerals. Having had "Vernon" spelt out in matching style letters over the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the back and displaying Calgary's 10th anniversary patch over the left shoulder, the jersey does not showcase the custom shortened sleeves usually seen on Vernon offerings that have previously come to market and has no visible pilling on the interior or exterior. Exhibiting a faint mark on the left sleeve, a pair of faint marks in the white stipe on the reverse and a mark above the nameplate, making it possible that the jersey was worn briefly in some capacity, we cannot be sure and are simply offering it as a pro stock game jersey. Additionally, worth mentioning for accuracy is that the fight strap on the interior looks quite new and unwashed.
