Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Having been chosen as a First or Second Team NHL All-Star in every season he had played in the National Hockey League up to that point, except for the 1942-43 campaign that saw him play in only sixteen (16) games, Maurice Richard posted a stat line of 27 goals and 17 assists during an injury riddled 1951-52 season before overcoming his aliments to propel the Montreal Canadiens back to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Detroit Red Wings. The first player in the history of the National Hockey League to register 500 goals in their career, offered here is this original NHL contract for the 1951-52 season for Maurice Richard that has been signed by "The Rocket" as well as fellow HOFers Clarence Campbell and Donat Raymond. Calling for a salary of $12,000 (just north of $133,000 in 2023 dollars), the Standard Player Contract lists no bonuses and no stipulation of Maurice being sent to a minor league club. Having been signed by Campbell over the front in black fountain pen and by both Maurice and Raymond over the lower reverse in blue ballpoint pen ink, all the signatures display without issue. Measuring roughly 8 1/2" x 16" when unfolded and sporting just light wear including fold lines and holes over the left border from previous binder insertion, red coloured pencil notations and a central register stamp are seen over the front where Campbell has signed as well and are worth noting for accuracy.
