Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
This remarkable celluloid team photo of the 1952-53 Stanley Cup champion Montreal Canadiens was originally obtained directly from the estate of Maurice "Rocket" Richard. Commissioned by the MacDonald Tobacco Company, this full color Habs Stanley Cup picture features The Rocket seated on the left side of the front row, between rookie goalie Jacques Plante and longtime linemate Elmer Lach, who scored the overtime winner at the Forum against Boston to give the Canadiens their seventh Stanley Cup. Presented to Maurice Richard, this unique team photo was a prized part of the Habs icon's personal collection.
To note are a few dozen pinholes and scuff marks on the surface on this otherwise excellent 11" x 20" team photo which features the names of all of the members of the team listed along the bottom. A black and white printed page showing the photo displayed in the Rocket's home accompanies this piece. Originally sold in our 2002 Maurice Richard auction, this magnificent and scarce Canadiens 1952-53 Stanley Cup photo comes with a photocopy of the original letter of authenticity from Richard's family.
