The Maurice Richard Trophy, officially unveiled on Jan. 24 1999, was a gift to the NHL from the Montreal Canadiens. This framed photo from the Richard family features The Rocket with Wayne Gretzky at the unveiling, and it’s been signed by the legendary pair. At 16” x 20”, the double-matted photo has been signed by each near their respective image in silver paint pen, with the signatures exhibiting extremely well. A centralized gold-coloured plaque listing the items particulars in French sits beneath, set into an attractive finished wood frame to total dimensions of 23 ¼” x 27 ¼”. In gorgeous condition, we should note that some of the paper backing on verso has been removed.
The Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy was donated by the Montreal Canadiens to the NHL in 1999, and was first awarded at the end of the 1998–99 season. It is one of the newest of the NHL's trophies and is named in honour of the legendary right winger Maurice "Rocket" Richard, who spent his eighteen-season career with the Canadiens. He led the NHL in goal scoring five times and was the first NHL player to reach the 500 goal milestone. In 1944–45, Richard became the first player in NHL history to score 50 goals in one season, doing so in just 50 games, the latter feat only achieved by a handful of players since then.
