Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Nicknamed "Le Petit Viking" and playing all but thirty-four (34) of his 651 National Hockey League games with the Montreal Canadiens, Mats Naslund would record a total of 634 points over that time and be named to NHL All-Star Game's in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1989. A Stanley Cup champion with the Canadiens in 1989 who also won a pair of Olympic medals with his native Sweden, including gold in 1994, he is a member of the famed "Triple Gold Club" and was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2005. Offered here, we present this Wales Conference jersey worn by Naslund at the 1986 NHL All-Star Game that was hosted in Hartford by the Whalers. Made by CCM and sporting a Gerry Cosby label affixed to the inner collar, a size "46" designation has been penned to it in blue ballpoint pen ink while a CCM logo is embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with "Wales" going diagonally down the chest from right-to-left in dual layer black-over-orange drop shadow tackle twill letters, single layer black twill stars also appear over the lower front, reverse and both sleeves while Wales Conference and NHL shield patches appear over the left and right shoulders respectively. Void of a fight strap on the interior, the sleeve and verso have been styled with Naslund's number "27" in dual layer drop-shadow tackle twill numerals while "Naslund" has been spelt out in matching style letters that have been sewn directly to the jersey at the top of the reverse. Hailing directly from Naslund's personal collection and accompanied by his signed LOA, the jersey shows game-wear via board burns over both sleeves as well as a light stick mark or two over both the front and reverse. Additionally, spot stains are present throughout the body and sleeves.
