Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
A product of the QMJHL's Victoriaville Tigres who would be named the league's best goaltender in 1998, Mathieu Garon would be drafted 44th overall by the Montreal Canadiens and go on to play a total of 341 games in the National Hockey League over the course of his career, winning a Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009. Offered here, we present this Garon worn red Montreal Canadiens "1945-46 Vintage Set" jersey that dates from the 2003-04 season. Made by CCM and sporting both "Goalie Style" and size "58" labels affixed to the inner collar, a CCM logo patch has been sewn on over the reverse hem alongside an embroidered NHL shield emblem. Decorated over the front of the classic tie-neck style offering with Montreal's famed "CH" crest in layered tackle twill that also features embroidered details, the NHL's "Vintage Series" crest has been placed over the right breast. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Garon's number "30" in either single layer or dual layer tackle twill numerals, "Garon" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Sporting pro on-ice details such as a fight strap and reinforced elbows, it is worth noting that jerseys of this style that were worn during the season should have MeiGray tagging sewn inside the reverse hem but this one is void of such designation and is the reason as to why we are calling it "worn" but not "game-worn". Displaying wear in the form of a puck mark over the right breast and light evidence of having been washed on the interior, the jersey remains in overall excellent condition.
