Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Towering trophies were presented to Springfield’s Marcel Paille as the AHL’s leading goalie in 1960-61 and ‘61-62 in the midst of three straight Calder Cup wins. Originally from Paille’s personal collection, each stands about 2’ tall. While similar, one has “The Harry “Hap” Holmes Trophy - Awarded To The American Hockey League’s Leading Goalie” engraved directly on the trophy while the same is fancily engraved on a brass plate on the 5” square base of the other. Each had repairs to the figural players, one now detached from the top and the other missing part of its stick. A Milt Schmidt autographed photo is included with four photos of Paille, and an Indians team picture and program.
“Season 1960-1961, Marcel Paille, Springfield Indians, Presented by Albert C. Sulphin” is engraved on the plaque on the front of the base of one trophy, which has “The Harry “Hap” Holmes Trophy – Awarded to the American Hockey League’s Leading Goalie” engraved on the front of the bowl. The figural player is detached from the top of the trophy, which now stands approximately 18” tall. The detached figural player stands about 6 1/2" tall, which would give the trophy an overall height of about 24 1/2" were it to be repaired.
“The Harry “Hap” Holmes Trophy – Awarded to The American Hockey League Leading Goalie Season 1961-1962, Marcel Paille, Springfield Indians, Presented by Albert C. Sulphin” is engraved on the plaque on the front of the wood base of the other trophy, which has nothing engraved on its bowl. The trophy stands approximately 23” tall.
Schmidt signed with his #15 at the bottom of a 10x8 photo. There are four 8x10 photos of Paille in his Springfield uniform, including one action shot, a paper stock 1960-61 Indians team photo, and an Indians program from the 1961-62 AHL season.
