Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016

From the shortened NHL season of 1994-95, we have a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey worn by HOFer Luc Robitaille. His only season in Pennsylvania and ninth in the NHL, the Montreal native would finish the campaign with 42 goals in the 46 games played. A CCM label along with a size “54” fly tag remain affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and CCM crests on the back bottom hem. “Pittsburgh” appears placed diagonally across the chest in partially embroidered twill, with the solid black v-neck accented with oversized double-twill numbers, along with matching alternate crests over each shoulder. Game-wear is light, with some random marks present, including examples over the left sleeve. Considering Robitaille is the all-time NHL leader for both career goals and points by a left-winger, valuing the immense importance of this sweater should be a no-brainer.
We should also add that the tagging in collar features “20” handwritten in marker by head equipment manager Steve Latin, with this particular feature found on all Latin Penguins jerseys from this era. This was executed so that the custom creators knew what numbers to affix to the jersey.
