Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020

Originally obtained from a Montreal Forum usher in the early-1980s and spending considerable time on the back of one of the modern era’s greatest defenceman, this well-used and highly desirable Canadiens sweater was worn by superstar defenceman Larry Robinson circa 1980-81. A partially detached Maska label and laundering tag with “54” sizing are affixed to the collar, with an embroidered Maska crest over the reverse hem. Styled with the most famous team crest in hockey, “19” appears over the sleeves and verso in blue-over-red tackle twill, with “Robinson” across the affixed nameplate in single blue twill. A garter-style fight strap has also been utilized, and we should note evidence of a former slightly shorter nameplate (Robinson's original nameplate) which was removed for the following pre-season as was common with the Canadiens during the period, with a different nameplate later added to the jersey, most likely to be worn again the following season.
Absolutely crushed with use, the jersey exhibits numerous marks and fabric pulls over the front and sleeves, with heavy red paint transfer over the right sleeve, with pilling to the interior sleeves. There are also a ton of team repairs throughout, with dozens over each sleeve.
