Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A veteran of 24 NHL seasons upon his retirement, Joe Thornton is a six-time All-Star, with the coveted Art Ross and Hart Memorial Trophies both won by the future HOFer in 2006. A veteran of 1714 games played in the National Hockey League, spending 532 of them in the black and gold of the Boston Bruins, offered here is stick used by Thornton as a member of the Bruins in the early-2000s. An Easton Ultra Lite model with a wooden CCM brand blade inserted into the bottom of the shaft, the "Thornton" identifier that was once stamped over the blade stem is largely faded away and it is worth noting that we could not find any clear photos of Jumbo using this model of stick with a CCM blade (usually seen using this model with Easton blades) but research shows that Joe switched from Easton to CCM shafts between November and December of the 2001-02 season. Retaining its original ribbed white tape job around the handle/knob, which has had Thornton's number "19" penned to it in black marker over the know, the original black tape that was once wrapped around the blade has been removed to facilitate Joe's flowing black marker ink signature over the forehand side, which displays well and with just light fading from age. Remaining free from any cracks or breaks, the stick show game-use via some marks and abrasions over the shaft, lower shaft and inserted blade. Of note, dried residue from an applied gripping agent is found over the shaft as well.
