Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020

While not overly well received originally, these classic vintage Vancouver Canucks jerseys have proved popular with modern collectors, with each and every surviving specimen particularly sought. We offer just that, with an especially desirable Canucks sweater worn by Jim Sandlak in 1986-87, just his second of nine seasons spent with the club. A mostly detached Maska label and “85 10” date tag are affixed to the collar, with a CCM crest over the reverse hem along with a patch to honour Canadian hero Rick Hansen. Featuring an attractive Canucks team crest with embroidered detailing, “19” appears over the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with “Sandlak” across the affixed nameplate in matching material and “”86/87” handwritten on the fight strap. We should note that the current nameplate is not original, with evidence of a former nameplate.
Sporting nice use with some very minor fraying to the team crest threading, there are scrapes, burns and pulls to the material over each sleeve, with numerous team repairs present, including over the reverse (1), left (5) and right (4) sleeves. Regarding the nameplate, as mentioned, the current example is not original. A few sporting goods stores in the Vancouver area (Scoffins was one) purchased a number of Canucks sweaters in the 1980s/90s along with nameplates and equipment from the team. There were loose nameplates ranging from complete examples to some missing letters. These stores put nameplates back on jerseys based on what they thought belonged, and if they didn’t have a complete nameplate, they took loose letters and applied them to the plate. This Sandlak jersey is an example that received such treatment.
