Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020

Thoroughly captivating in appearance and arguably the most significant trophy ever offered when considering it’s extraordinary construction and monumental importance, this absolutely superb 500th goal trophy was originally presented to legendary superstar Jean Beliveau by the Montreal Canadiens on the evening the icon was honoured, March 24, 1971, at the Montreal Forum. At 19 ½” x 13 ½” x 4” (not including the puck) and resplendent in finished sterling silver throughout, the actual puck used by big Jean to secure his 500th goal sits mounted atop a complete hockey rink in silver, encompassed entirely by engraved statistics from his career including “1964-65 Stanley Cup First Recipient of the Conny Smythe Trophy” and “1962-63 300th Goal Jan 26th”. Silver plaques have also been added over the front and sides of the tiered wooden base, with each marked "Birks Sterling”, with the front plaque (in both English and French) stating “Presented to Jean Beliveau by Le Club de Hockey Canadien March 24, 1971 In Recognition of Outstanding Leadership and Service to the Community and our National Sport 1953-1971”. The puck was produced by Converse with a rubberized Habs logo and screened Converse reverse logo, with heavy wear visible, with a silver band added along with “500” in affixed individual numerals. Originally acquired directly from Jean Beliveau with a family LOA included, please take note that this paramount keepsake may be subject to a silent reserve.
As mentioned, the mounted puck shows wear from game use, with the surface along the top of the trophy as well as on the affixed plaques showing oxidation/tarnishing, with the winning bidder able to clean these areas if so desired. There is also a “Birks Sterling” stamp along with hallmarks behind the mounted puck. The wooden base shows wear commensurate with the trophy’s former use and display, and we should note that the back left corner silver foot is misaligned, but this is very minor, with the trophy sitting perfectly flat.
