Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Stunning oil painting from artist N. Fontaine showing a close-up look at HOF goaltender Gerry Cheevers (ind. 1985) wearing his iconic stitches mask, an idea that originated from Bruins trainer Frosty Forristall and which showed marked-on black stitches to demonstrate the number of facial injuries Cheevers avoided. The mask, which became the talk of the hockey world, is one of the most recognizable of all NHL masks, and eventually found a home in the Hall of Fame. Professionally displayed inside a black wooden frame measuring 28” x 34”, this creation on canvas is signed by artist Fontaine, with both the painting and the frame in outstanding condition.
