Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A product of the Ontario Hockey Association's Kitchener Rangers, Gary Kurt would turn pro with the Omaha Knights of the CHL before toiling through the AHL with the likes of Cleveland and Baltimore. Breaking into the National Hockey League with the California Golden Seals during the 1971-72 season for a total of sixteen (16) games before jumping ship to the rival WHA the next year where he would play a total of 176 games over the course of five (5) seasons with the likes of New York/New Jersey and Phoenix, Kurt would win the AHL's Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award for the 1970-71 season. Hailing from his lone NHL season of 1971-72, offered here is this California Golden Seals jersey worn by Kurt. A heavyweight durene knit offering made by Wilson, a brand label is still affixed to the inner collar which displays a penned size "52" designation in thin black marker ink. Void of a fight strap of any kind on the interior, the front of the green and yellow ensemble is decorated with "Seals" in individually applied green-over-white dual layer tackle twill letters while the sleeves and verso have been accented with Kurt's number "30" in either matching style numerals or those of a single layer variation. With the outline of the single layer green twill letters that once spelt out "Kurt" still visible over the upper reverse from being sewn directly to the material of the area, it needs to be noted that the numbers on the reverse as well as the team crest have been restored and are not original to the jersey. In terms of use, the piece shows good game-wear via a large team repair over the lower front while puck marks are seen over the front and both sleeves also. With what seems to be blood staining present over the right sleeve, a few small cuts/holes are seen throughout, including fabric runs, while some pilling is found on the interior as well. Retaining its original green lace through the eyelets of the collar, the jersey was originally part of the personal collection of a former Seals executive before it was brought into the hobby.
