A product of the Moose Jaw Canucks in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League who then developed in the system of the Chicago Black Hawks with their affiliate in Dallas, Garth Rizzuto's NHL chance finally came with the league's expansion to Vancouver for the 1970-71 season, with the Canucks claiming him in the 1970 NHL Expansion Draft. Used in a utility player role for the Canucks during that first season, recording 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 points in 37 games, Rizzuto would be the first player born and trained in British Columbia to suit up with the Canucks and score for the team. Offered here, we present this seldomly seen offering inaugural season Vancouver Canucks jersey worn by Rizzuto during their first season of 1970-71. Made by General Athletic, a washing instruction tag from the brand remains sewn to the inside of the reverse hem while a size tag, too frayed to see the designation, is affixed to the inner collar with the durene constructed garment measuring out to roughly a size "48". Decorated over the front with a beautiful Canucks "stick-in-rink" crest in layered tackle twill that features chain-stitched details, the sleeves have been accented with white tackle twill "V"'s at each elbow as well as Rizzuto's number "22" in single layer blue tackle twill numerals. With "22" over the reverse in matching blue tackle twill numerals, the jersey exhibits game-wear via a small handful of stick marks over the front and reverse while a team repair graces the left elbow and a board burn is observed near the right elbow. Displaying additional wear through staining throughout the entirety of the piece as well as blue coloured paint transfers over the left shoulder, the interior of the jersey, now void of its fight strap, shows some light pilling to the lower front and reverse. An LOA will accompany the piece.
