Developing in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League with the famous Soo Greyhounds before his professional career, Doug Patey would be drafted by both the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals (73rd overall) and World Hockey Association's Phoenix Roadrunners (66th overall) in 1976 and would go on to play a total of forty-five (45) games in the NHL as well as 153 games in the AHL over the course of his professional career. Offered here from his developmental days as a member of the Greyhounds, we present this collection of Patey's memorabilia from his time in the OMJHL including a game-worn jersey, leather team jacket, presentational plaque and game pucks.
Starting with the jersey, a durene knit offering made by Tricot Sport Maska, a partially detached brand label is affixed to the inner collar of the tie-neck style garment with the jersey itself measuring out to roughly a modern size "44". Void of a fight strap on the interior and decorated over the front with a Greyhounds team crest that has been administered in layered twill and shows chain-stitched details, dual layer red-over-white or white-over-red twill stars are found over the upper front and both shoulders. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Patey's number "8" in dual layer white-over-red tackle twill numerals, the jersey displays good game-wear via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, board burns/slash marks over both sleeves, yellow board paint transfers over both elbows and fabric runs/unrepaired holes over both sleeves plus the lower front, the jersey also displays team repairs on the front and over the left sleeve as well while staining is found throughout also.
For the jacket, a red leather offering, a size "42" label is affixed to the inner collar and a thick chenille team crest is in place over the left breast. Also having had Patey's number "8" added over the right sleeve, all the snap style buttons remain present and accounted for and the jacket shows light wear throughout via some minor scratches and scuffs to the leather and chipping to the enamel of the snaps.
For the plaque, measuring 7” x 9” and in a wooden scroll style design, a gold coloured metal plate that has been engraved with "Doug Patey - Soo Greyhound Hockey Club - 1974-75 1975-76 - Presented By The City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.” has been affixed over the front that shows in good condition with a few light scratches/scuffs and wear to the corners. Additionally, the wooden portion of the plaque shows light wear via a few small marks as well.
Finally, for the game pucks, both sporting "Soo Greyhounds" logos over one side and "CMJHL" logos on the other, both show light surface wear over both faces and edges as well as some nicks/marks also. Additionally, one has spots of missing rubber on both sides and dents from game use and has had tape added over the side reading "D. Patey 2nd 3 Goal Game Against Ottawa (At Soo) - Jan 29 1975" in blue ballpoint pen ink.
