A benefit game that was played on January 30th, 2002 to raise money for Hockey's All-Star Kids and Children's Hospital Los Angeles, the 2002 NHL All-Star Celebrity Challenge pitted squads led by Jerry Bruckheimer (Bruckheimer's Bad Boys) and David E. Kelley (Kelley's Heroes) against each other as part of the NHL's 2002 All-Star Game celebrations in Los Angeles. A veteran of 1232 National Hockey League contests over the course of 19 seasons of play, Dino Ciccarelli along with other NHL alumni such as Pat Lafontaine, Lanny McDonald and Peter Stastny would suit up for team "Kelley's Heroes" during the match, with Ciccarelli wearing the jersey offered in this lot. Made by CCM, the mostly maroon coloured garment features a lone size "52" label affixed to the inner collar while a CCM logo patch sits over the reverse neckline. Having had both the NHL shield and NHLPA logos embroidered into the reverse hem and in the same style worn by Team World during the 2002 All-Star Game, the previously mentioned NHLPA logo over the reverse hem has been covered by a swatch of extra black material that has been sewn on. Decorated over the front with a large partially embroidered NHL league crest over the front, no logo patches have been added over the shoulders but the all-important 2002 NHL All-Star Game patch sits sewn over the right breast. Having had Ciccarelli's number "22" sewn to the lower front and verso in dual layer white-over-grey tackle twill numerals, "Ciccarelli" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Of note, some of the red from the jersey has bled into the white layer of the numbers and letters that have been added on. Exhibiting no discernible game-wear except for some pilling at the front hemline and both cuffs, a small spot stain is observed behind the left shoulder that is worth pointing out for accuracy. Additionally, more red colour bleed is exhibited on the fight strap inside the jersey.
Originally on display at "Ciccarelli's Premier Sports Club and Eatery" restaurant in a frame, the jersey was removed from said frame and therefore has some pinholes from the former mounting while the interior hem is lightly sticky from being held together with mounting tape. Hailing from his personal collection, an LOA signed by Ciccarelli will accompany the piece.
