Shuttered at the height of his powers, when the superstar had already reached iconic status as an American living legend, Babe Ruth posed for this stunning signed portrait sometime in the early-1930s, leaving a memento of Ruthian proportions for future aficionados. At approx 6" x 8", with a visible area of 5" x 7", the Sultan of Swat gazes into the viewers eyes with a determined, all-business countenance that would shake even the most unshakable veteran period hurler. Signed with an inscription that reads "To My Pal Alan Gould Jr from Babe Ruth Dec 25-1932", a prior auction certificate from 2016 that will accompany explains that Alan Gould Sr, who had a lengthy career as an Associated Press sportswriter and editor, served as a correspondent at the 1932 World Series just under three months prior. This Fall Classic was of course the famous Ruth "called shot" series, which occurred in Game 3, adding considerable significance to this diamond treasure. The fountain pen signature and inscription has changed to a lighter grey colour over time, but remains deep and vibrant, while the glossy photo which has been matted to full dimensions of 8" x 10" exhibits a few minor creases including over the upper left corner.
