Concluding his rookie campaign with better than a-point-a-game numbers, earning 48 points in 45 contests in 2015-16, Connor McDavid then began his sophomore season wearing the offered Oilers alternate captain’s jersey for just a single game, in the September 28, 2016 preseason match vs Vancouver (won by the Canucks, 5-3). A label with “56” sizing is affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and Reebok crests over the front and reverse necklines respectively. Styled with the familiar oil drop team crest, the white V-neck has “97” in tri-colour tackle twill sewn to the sleeves and verso, with the alternate captain’s “A” sewn to the left breast and Rogers Place Inaugural Season Patch just above the right breast. Worn for just a single preseason game, the jersey shows light expected wear with just a few visible marks, including over the base of the reverse “9”. The “Set 1” team patch resides on the inside hem along with a crest from MeiGray, and according to the company’s population report, the jersey is a "White Set 1 w/A, w/ Rogers Place Inaugural Season Patch - Preseason Only - Worn 9/28/16" specimen and is the ONLY surviving alternate captain's jersey McDavid has ever worn as his blue preseason example was made into his first captain's jersey that was previously sold by Classic Auctions. An LOA from the Oilers is included, and we should note that it erroneously lists the Sept 28th match vs Vancouver as a 3-2 Oilers victory.
