Finishing fifth overall during the 1979-80 NHL regular season, the New York Islanders would lose only single games in each of the first two playoffs rounds, advancing to the finals against Philadelphia after defeating Buffalo in the Semis. The Nassau County Coliseum was the place and Bob Nystrom the hero, scoring at 7:11 of overtime in Game 6 of the finals, giving New York a 5-4 win over the Flyers and ultimate bragging rights. Led by Conn Smythe Trophy-winner Bryan Trottier, linemates Mike Bossy and Clark Gillies, captain Denis Potvin, late-season addition Butch Goring and goaltender Billy Smith, the Islanders would go on to win four consecutive Stanley Cup championships. Presented to Islanders legend Clark Gillies and originating from his personal collection, we have a miniature Stanley Cup trophy awarded for the Islanders’ 1980 Stanley Cup victory. Standing a majestic 13” with a wooden base and green felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in three columns beneath team management, with “New York Islanders” and “1979-80” engraved above. Heavy tarnishing and surface wear is present throughout, with light wear to the wooden base. Gillies has signed the underside in black marker adding “HOF 02”, with a signed LOA from the Moose Jaw native to accompany.
