Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
The ultimate photo collection featuring The Hockey’s News highest ranked goaltender of all-time, we have a wonderful gathering of over 150 Terry Sawchuk photos, with roughly 50 original prints and media photos, with many impressive examples. Highlights include a number of action shots along with a wonderful portrait photo from the mid-1950s, a 1960 media photo that shows Terry sprawled out on the ice appearing to be injured, a post-game image showing the Red Wings lined-up arm and arm with Terry and his #1 front and center and an early-1960s media photo showing Terry making a wonderful pad save, with the logo of the puck visible. The photos range in size from roughly 5” x 8” to 8” x 10”, with a good majority in the latter size. We also have a few framed examples along with a copy of the Feb 18th 1951 Detroit News Pictorial with Sawchuk on the cover and more!
The framed photos are fairly modern prints, with a 16” x 19” example of a classic image of Terry from earlier in his career that pictures the HOFer dressing before the game, along with a roughly 10” x 13” example that pictures both Terry along with Johnny Bower as they pose with the Vezina Trophy. We also have an original oversized 9” x 11” print that pictures a young Sawchuk in suit and tie at an awards ceremony with Jean Beliveau, along with a large 1982-83 fabric calendar banner from the HOF that pictures Terry. The majority of the photos show expected wear and handling commensurate with their former use, with most of the media examples exhibiting notations along with affixed captions. Anyone who has sought quality photos of Sawchuk are completely aware how difficult it is to locate desirable examples, especially intriguing game-action shots, something this collection is thankfully loaded with.
