The first love of nearly every young Canadian and American boy growing up throughout the second half of the 20th century, comic books emerged from newspaper comic strips, with the first modern-style books appearing during the Great Depression. We have a collection of Silver Age comic books (1956-1970) totaling 44, with the majority DC titles, with a few Golden Age (1938-1956) as well as Marvel books included. Highlighted by clean mid-to-high-grade examples of Batman Giant Annual 4 and 7, Superman Giant Annual 6 and 8 and 80 pg Giant 6 and 8, with each exhibiting near-white pages, from Marvel we also have mid-grade copies of Marvel Tales Annual 1 and Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1 (white page variant). Additional titles in the collection include Action, Adventure, Detective, Superboy, World’s Finest and others.
A few more highlights are included, with an Italian-printed copy of Superman 27 (1969), Amazing Adult Fantasy 7 (classic Ditko cover – first issue after title change from Amazing Adventures), Tales of Suspense 24 (Vital Publishing) and a copy of Fawcett’s Master Comics 88 with an attractive Captain Marvel Jr. cover. This is followed by a number of lower grade books with World’s Finest 86, 126 and 131, Action Comics 301, Adventure Comics 232, 304 and 312, Superman 111, 114, 158, 159, 165 and 170, Detective Comics 311, 314, 513 and 334, Superboy 52, 67, 102 and 103, Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen 15, 37 and 61 and others.
