Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
One of only a few players in history to win the Conn Smythe in a losing effort, Ron Hextall became the first goaltender to score a goal in an NHL game. The Brandon native was also known to be one of the most aggressive goaltenders, with 100+ penalty minutes in each of his first three seasons. Originating from the collection of long-time Flyers trainer Jim "Turk" Evers, we have a blocker and glove combination worn by Hextall in the early-1990s, circa 1991-92. Brian’s Altra models in white and black with orange accents, each has embroidered identifiers, with “Hand Made” appearing on a stamp over the thumb on the blocker. Both show especially heavy use, with considerable wear to the pocket of the trapper along with numerous dark marks across the face of the blocker. A signed LOA from Evers will accompany.
A few stains are present on the blocker over the lower front and over the thumb, with salting/oxidation to the metal grommets on both items. Additional lacing has also been added to the pocket of the trapper. A printed colour image of Hextall from circa 1991-92 wearing these exact models with identical color schemes together as a set will be included.
