Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Reaching the milestone plateau of 1000 career-points 27 games earlier than the first man to summit, Gordie Howe, Jean Beliveau did so on March 3rd 1968 at the Olympia in Detroit, scoring the historic marker on Red Wings’ backstop Roger Crozier. Issued to commemorate Beliveau's 1000 points in the NHL, we have an engraved Colibri lighter that hails from his personal collection. Beliveau’s engraved facsimile signature graces the front along with "1000", with a company logo engraved over the underside. The chrome-colored metal keepsake shows just minor surface wear and scuffing commensurate with use, but we're unsure if still in working order. A signed LOA from Jean Beliveau will accompany.
Playing against Gordie Howe’s Red Wings at the Olympia on March 3 1968 in his 911th NHL game, Jean Béliveau reached the important career milestone of 1000 points. Five minutes into the first period, “Le Gros Bill” beat goaltender Roger Crozier to become the second NHL player - after Howe - to reach the 1,000-point plateau, and the first to do it in a Montreal Canadiens sweater.
