Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Spending four seasons in the early-1950s with the Quebec Aces, Herb Carnegie would average nearly a point-a-game over the first three, with the Aces finishing first in the Quebec Senior Hockey League and winning the Alexander Cup (Canadian Major-Senior championship) during his third year, in 1951-52. We have a collection of Aces photos featuring Carnegie and totaling seven, along with Herb’s CAHA medal awarded for his status as an Alexander Cup champion. At approx 1” x 1 ½” and with remnants of an attached ribbon, the medal remains in gorgeous condition, with “The Alexander Cup” and “CAHA” over the front, along with “Quebec Aces”, “1952” and “Herb Carnegie” engraved over the reverse. The photos include teams photo from 1951-52 (framed) and 1952-53, an Arctic Ice advertising montage and four other more personal photos. An LOA from the Carnegie family will accompany.
The 1949-50 team photo is mounted to a “Studio Jacques” backing (8” x 11 ½”), with the date written on the reverse and just light wear exhibited. The 1951-52 team photo is on a matching backing and framed to 10” x 13”, undated, Marcel Bonin is visible, and he spent only two seasons with the club, in 1951-52 (played 60 games) and 1952-53 (played in only 4 games), with the date of the former most likely. The Arctic photo is on thin paper stock at 7 ½” x 9”, with light wear and a bit of staining. Lastly, there’s three photos all showing heavy wear and affixed to a scrapbook page, with one showing Carnegie in the dressing room with teammate (8” x 10” - appears to be Joe Fitzpatrick), with a pair affixed to the reverse , one showing Herb with two teammates (Morey Hamilton and Joe Fitzpatrick), the other, with “Maurice Roy and wife”. To claim the Alexander Cup in 1952, the Aces would defeat the semi-professional Maritime Major Hockey League’s Saint John Beavers, four games to one.
