Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
A monumental season as reigning four-time Stanley Cup champions, the New York Islanders were led once again by Bryan Trottier in 1983-84, finishing atop their Conference, registering only 26 loses. With this his sixth season of ascending the 100-point plateau, Trottier would again shine in the playoffs, adding an additional 14 points in just 21 postseason games. These gloves were worn by the HOFer during the Stanley Cup finals, and they’ve been photo-matched! KOHO 700 Pro models in Islanders colours, “19” decals appear over each wrist guard, with the original tie-string laces intact. Heavy use is exhibited, with considerable rubbing to the leather in spots, along with a few separations within each palm and darkening of the right from the black tape over Trottier’s stick handle. We should also note that the gloves were previously mounted within a display, with areas visible where the silicone or another such bonding agent was used, with each glove also sporting a pair of small holes, also administered to facilitate said mounting. Originating from Trottier’s personal collection, an LOA from the family will accompany.
As mentioned, the gloves were previously mounted, with the right glove exhibiting a faint outline of the bonding agent used over the cuff and diamond pattern just below, with damage to the material visible along with each mounting hole. The left glove has the same bonding agent outline over the “19” decal, with a small area of fabric loss, with the two small mounting holes placed adjacently. Regarding the photo-matches, three included numeric images from the Stanley Cup finals were matched, with the first matched to the big black mark through the KOHO logo over the cuff of the right glove, and to the black marks through the diamond pattern directly below, while the image was also matched to exact shaping of the torn KOHO cloth label over the interior wrist on the left glove. The second image has been matched to the big black mark through the KOHO logo over the cuff of the right glove, and to the single black mark within the second-highest diamond-shaped area on the left glove. Finally, the third image has been matched to a series of black marks over the white portion of the thumb section on the right glove, and to the single black mark within the second-highest diamond-shaped area on the left glove. It should be further noted that the small damaged area mentioned over the right glove and the missing area of fabric over the left do not show up in the photo-matches, with this likely occurring from their previous mounting.
