Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Remembered for his leadership of Canada during the First World War, Sir Robert Laird Borden entered office as the 8th Prime Minister of Canada in 1911, serving until 1920. The Nova Scotia native was the last Canadian prime minister to be knighted. We have a signed portrait photo of the barrister and Conservative, with this specimen featuring a large and attractive signature. At 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" and affixed to a slightly larger mount, the antique photo from photographer Dupras & Colas of Montreal pictures Borden posed and looking dapper. Borden has signed beneath his image in flawless bold black ink, with just a portion of the "R" of "Robert" a bit light due to the writing instrument. Matted and framed in what appears to be the original Haynes Art Gallery frame to full dimensions of 13 1/2" x 15 1/2" (there is some sticker glue residue to the glass which can be removed), this signed portrait will fit comfortably within any advanced politician autograph grouping or Canadiana collection. Borden passed away in 1937, just shortly before his 83rd birthday. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany.
